Watching them is a great fun. Here are a few points which may help you to look after your terrapins- Buy healthy terrapins to avoid unwanted sickness. It should have clear and bright eyes without any mucous secretion. The shell should not be soft or cracked and the skin should also look healthy, moist and without any wounds. Keep the hatchlings in clear and spacious glass tank. Increase the tank size as the terrapins grow bigger. Dirty tank water can cause a number of serious diseases. Never let them fall from your grip. Observe your terrapin carefully to find any of the following changes: a) Soft, rubbery, and deformed shell: This indicates deficiency of calcium, Vitamin D3 and UV light (from unfiltered sun rays) and protein. Provide balanced diet, inject calcium and vitamin D from time to time, and let it bask in the sun or fix an UV lamp outside the tank. B) Swollen and red eyes with mucous secretions: This is the indication of vitamin A deficiency or bacterial infection.
